Letter from Claude (to La Baule) to Grand-Père (in Versailles), April 74

My dear Dad
I'm a little late to wish you your birthday, but I don't forget that you have one more year and your children and grandchildren wish you a lot of happiness. Hey yes time passes! This year Yves and I will be married. Life is an adventure.
I am very pleased to see you coming soon to St Avertin. I hope that your health will be good and that we can do a lot of interesting things. Spring is there... there are delicious days and we can also flicker in the garden.
For the time being, there was no question of flumping; for our two boys – the elders – it was a "demented" day yesterday (the word is deux). Of 60 boats leaving, 40 gave up so much wind, capsizing and breaking. But there were many safety boats that were catching and helping. Our boys were delighted (they didn't give up).
Our hotel is by the sea; the 2 youngest are spreading on the beach, because it's close to the starting point of the regatta, and the wind is oxygenating us and iodineing us. And I am getting under the table with a lot of enthusiasm and appetite.

Yesterday I had to fix a veil..I sewed until 1:00 in the morning, and I was thinking about Granie's seamstress and I was sorry that she was not here to give me a hand.
The Baule has a pretty good look. On the seafront, the houses, probably a little old-fashioned, have been replaced by large buildings with sober lines.
Yves doesn't go to Paris next week, so you'll have to take the train. Go ahead and don't rush; you, Dad, take a little ridiculous and not heavy luggage;; and take taxis if the occasion comes. I think I remember that there are often in bleach. It avoids stairs to climb and get off.
I kiss you very hard and all join me
