1974-84 - Life in Saint Avertin
82
Letter from Claude, circa May 1974She returned to St-Avertin after having been in Versailles to see Frédéric, a resident of Ste Genevièfve and who has just passed the writing of the X contest. She wrote to Dampierre:
"Tuesday, dear
I get Tandree's letter this morning - and a few days ago Mom's. I'm glad everything goes well in Dampierre, knowing that the trip went well, that the flowers are embalming and that everything is green. The campaign is really sumptuous this season.
Yesterday I went to Versailles. I saw my dear boy Frédéric who looked good and was happy according to his habit. We went to the restaurant for lunch. He had taken the 2CV to take me there... it was near the pool of Neptune and since he did not have a class in the afternoon we were even lying in the grass of the park. He looks good. He is not very happy with the examination of the X (but it will be received from the first test) Because there was mostly numerical calculation and it's not his strong one, so he doesn't seem to have a good result.
I took the opportunity to see some small apartments and then we have investments to make. (we had a gift from my parents, in money, following the settlement of the Caille estate, it was equivalent to 300,000F of the time, in December 74 we finally bought the apartment on Montebello Street)A small on the 4th floor without elevator at the corner of Gallieni Street and the Queen's Bd I liked terribly for the neighborhood and its royal staircase... but it is really small - and we think about the 4 floors when we are 80!
I found my peaceful Saint Avertin with great pleasure. I was a bit of a fool... and we have a famous chance to live in our beautiful property, a factor of calm and balance.
For the weekend of Pentecost, did I tell you that the 3 seniors (including Fred) were going to La Rochelle with their father to race - I go on a weekend in Paris and Renaud will stay in St Avertin.
Then I'll be very busy picking strawberries and raspberries like you!
