Letter from Claude to his parents
St. Laurent, summer 1961
...for us, a journey without stories, Christophe and Valérie were wise, thanks to a good nap and no one was ill. Life here has been well organized. I am sorry not to have the address of Fanne to give him news of Valerie. Everything is fine for this little girl although she had enough trouble adapting to all these new faces. She always refuses to say hello to anyone, but with me it goes very well and it is essential. They both do good cleaning, Christophe and Valérie – in the same room, except at the nap. The change of environment has made them forget their chicaneries and they don't argue much anymore. Christophe elsewhere is a little absorbed by Frédéric and another little boy from the farm of his age, so that the twins are less one on the other.
There are always nice lightening, bathing every day for everyone, even Martin goes to the beach, but he does not like cold water.
I bought some nice new shoes from Martin, who looks quite big. Everyone rushes over him and wears it all day – it does him good because he was very timid and wild and it makes him civil. It's the favorite of all.
