1955, summer in France

I'm sure Yves's letter to his parents-in-law.
Mostaganem 7 Sept 1955
Dear Mother, dear Father,
You probably went back to Versailles after a good holiday in Dampierre, with Claude and the baby. Let's hope he didn't break your head and ears with his screams.
The holidays are coming up for me now and in a decade it will be done. I have just spent 2 days in Algiers where I saw François, also single for a time, is the lot of most metropolitans of Algeria during the summer period. Mostaganem's reputation is not overrated, the climate is certainly far better than in Oran, Algiers, Relizane and most of the cities inside, except perhaps those at 1000m altitudes like Tiaret or Tlemcen.
The job is exciting, varied, the work is numerous and often interesting: piers, docks, dredging of the port, construction of important sections of new roads, a 27m-range bridge, many works of art everywhere, in addition to the routine maintenance of the roads and their rehabilitation.
I do not think there is any danger at present to travel in the department of Oran. Nevertheless, we are wary of the night trips, except on the large roads which have been very circulating. There have been very important troop arrivals in Oran for 15 days and a large part is destined to keep garrisoned throughout the country.
While I'm waiting to see you again in Paris in October, I kiss you, dear parents, very affectionately.
