Letter from Claude's sponsor: Francis Scola, to Claude, 1935. Francis lived in Paris in 1935.Paris this 22 Nov 35
My little darling
I'll always be a big laziness to write and I'll allow you to make a mistake when you come back to Paris for the upcoming Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations, but your little letter made me very happy and I would have wanted to answer it earlier, unfortunately she travelled a lot from my table in all my pockets of jacket and over (there are about fifteen) and I never found her at the time I was willing to write to you. It was the guinea pig! Anyway, I congratulate you on your progress and your ever-increasing desire to go to school to become a well-educated and well-educated little girl.
You write and you tell me very well. Next time you will tell me if you are wise, if you do not make Mom and Dad mad and if you don't make your big sister so quick, but it would be so bad that I dare believe that of you who is the most adorable of the girls. Goodbye my little darling. Don't forget to tell me or to let me know by your daddy or your mom what you would like to have the little Christmas bring you, provided of course that everyone is happy with you.
The whole family is fine and we have good news of Louise, she's taking care of her affections for you four, and I'm adding my most resounding kiss to you.

In August 36, the Rougier moved to Dijon and sent their 2 daughters to Seals for a few weeks. Claude wrote the letter opposite.
The Rougier will be installed until September 39 in a recent apartment of a beautiful building, on the 5th floor, 7 place Auguste Dubois.
At the beginning of the war, Grannie and her 2 daughters left the big town threatened with bombing to take refuge with Marcel Maillet's family in Cancon, a small village in the Lot-et-Garonne.

On the back of Claude's letter of 20-8-36, a word from Bonne-Maman de Sceaux/
"Nothing new, the little ones are very well and wise. The weather is less warm and I hope that the move is not too painful. Yesterday we met Mr. Bellet, professor, he looks surprisingly like his brother and speaks of Dijon as a very pleasant city.
Andree asks me for your address, but I still haven't received anything to send her a letter - so don't count on her.
Good kisses to both of you and good courage.Tandree's card to Fanny and Claude, 1938?
My darlings
I'm glad to see you soon! What a great idea to come to Seals. I'll probably go to Colette at Easter but I won't be long gone. I'm very proud that Fanny was first in song. I hope you'll teach me some nice songs during the holidays and we'll play well together.
I kiss you very affectionately.

Vonnette's letter to Claude, 1936?My dear Claudet
I am very confused to reply so late to such a nice letter.
Because I admired and admired the beautiful writing of my goddaughter! I was very surprised and pleasantly added.
But I'm told that you've grown a lot, so obviously when you get big, you have to have wisdom coming with... otherwise you'd be just a sting!
I always have fun with my little girls on Thursdays.
For St. Catherine We had a nice party, all the big ones were dressed up, there were two guguss, a big strawberry, the little ones had come out very cute, and then everyone had some good cakes, and I hope we'll have a Christmas tree too.Santa always sends him very big!
I think you're going to get rid of your godmother, who finally answered you. You promised her drawings for a very long time and she's still waiting for them!
I kiss you very hard, and Fanny.
Y. Thirion
Your apron was very nice... but still a little small for me.
My dear mother and my dear Tandree
My chickenskin is finished, my buttons all have craws it hasn't fallen yet, I went out this afternoon for 5 minutes I went around the august place of the wood. Irene is still in the opital, she wrote to mom, she wrote that she was going to go and said that her fever had been kissing the nurses was very nice but that she was very bored that no one could see her and she might have stayed at the hospital until Christmas. So we think we're going to the general if I'm not any more buttons. Fanny took over the class on Monday. There's a lot of snow maybe 6 centimetres.
We made him pretty hides we had to give them to school for the poor he was too tar so we kept them for us his grave well it its light blue and marine.
In high school, on Tuesday there was a Christmas tree Fanny was there my steps, Fanny mas said that there had been a great taste she had a plum pie a leafy cake a little butter and a tangerine, each class recited a recitation it was the one who recited the mieu that recited in front of the Christmas tree it wasn't fanny she sang my beautiful tree and again and leaving the director gave them some combons, my Fanny had to bring a frank. I hope everyone is fine I'm not going too bad.
I kiss you and the whole family.

Letter from Grannie to Claude, 1937
30 May (1938, Claude is in the colony at Lans en vercors)
My dear little Claudet
I'm glad you sent us the good news. I think you've just had a very nice time, and during that time I went on a trip, I went to the first communion of my goddaughter Odile. (Gauvin), the little girl who lives in Compiègne and who writes to me from time to time, so long ago I had not seen her that she did not recognize me, because she was then very small. She is a great 11 1/2 year old girl who is very wise and very nice, she had a beautiful white dress, in honor of her first communion her uncles and aunts and her grandmothers had come and also I who am her godmother.
I went to Seals and I saw the whole thing. I was told you wrote letters, we were glad you were getting there and you were getting bigger and having a lot of fun. I went to see Dr. Bélègre, he said he'd send his little boy back to Lans.
I went back to Dijon on Saturday and you're working really well now, she promised she'd be out of the moon, so she's third in a recitation, sixth in geography, and Miss Garcin said she still has good places and good grades.
Yesterday we went for a walk and lunch on the grass but in the evening all trams and buses were full of people and we only came home at 81/2 in the evening also Fanny was very sleepy and in the morning she did not go to school to sleep longer.
Goodbye, Claudet, we all kiss you very hard, your mom.

Do you sometimes find pretty flowers like these in the mountain?
I was glad to hear from your mom and that you're having a lot of fun. Have you got some girlfriends your age? You'll teach me how to play belot when you come to Seals because I don't know! Good Mom and I kiss you very much.

My dear Claudet. I've had your good news and I know you're starting to fatten. I think you'll be a good big girl when you come back. Here the little cousins and cousins are all fine but it's still cold despite the flowers on the trees! I send you a holy Virgin with her little Jesus that you will look at from time to time and we kiss you very much, my Claudet, Tandree and me.
