Memories of Marguerite Maillet:
" Stephen, born on March 9, 1899, began his studies at the high school in Reims. War and emigration led him to the college of Clamey in 1915, then to the high school of Henry IV. (Paris) In 1916 and finally at the High School of Tours in 1917 and part of 1918, he finished his preparation for the Central School when he was mobilized to the 8th Genius in Angoulème and sent on the front as a radio-sapper. The Armistice having intervened, he was part of the occupation troops of Alsace."
He was received at the Central School in 1920, he came out about 1922 and entered a company that was installing radios. He travelled: Norway, Lebanon. Like his brother René, he had several employers, advertised and he stayed long in a stationery company in Valencia (Sorgues?), from 1935 to 1945. After the war, he worked at the Ministry of Reconstruction, then as a teacher in Valencia. Married in 1930, he had five children, all married, and many grandchildren. He retired around 1959 and since his wife's death he has been divided between a small apartment in the center of Valencia and a large property nearby in Peaugres, on the foothills of the Massif Central: "La Bruyère" where he has practiced gardening. Since his death around 1990, the property has been sold.
Several letters written by Etienne Maillet were preserved, including those dating from the German occupation and liberation in 1944:
