Bizerte

The outer port of Bizerte is connected by canal to two inland ports: the bay of Serba and the lake of Bizerte. Bizerte was first occupied by settlers from Tyre, the Phoenician capital. Later, the city became a Roman colony and then, after the seventh century AD, an Arab possession. After 1881, when France took over Tunisia and made a protectorate, the French draped channels and continued the modernization of the port and built naval installations on the shores of the lake.
