Letter from Jean Hausermann to Buenos Aires, his sisters, Paris
Buenos Aires1ir October 1945
My sisters
Your letters come to us and it is with great pleasure that your news was received. Your letter of 22 July, my dear Sim, arrived on 13 August.. a record....
.... . . Finally Mr Michelin sent yesterday the envelope you had entrusted to her .. with the famous photos. I looked very sadly at those of the old house. I realize that it was by miracle that she was not damaged, but understand that we did not experience all this and that it was very painful to see in this state what our dear mother had so cared for... and the dear old church. I do not realize well what you could save internally, probably little. Your trips this summer, by family, inclined to believe that the house is not very habitable. I would almost have preferred to see it on the floor, completely. I hope you have received my letter of 8 June, entrusted to the Commander of the "Groix", answering your questions. It was very difficult to form an opinion. I summarize it here: I cannot consider loading it; if one of you can, it is very well, otherwise it must be considered; I do not believe in war damage, and when ? Obviously it would be desirable if I could see all this and share it, but I do not think that we should be able to do so.’entrevoie pas encore la possibilité de partir pour la France. Je suis en train de rapatrier tout le personnel français ou venant d’Europe………………………….
.......but something that made me happy, all of us, is the photographs of you all. You would have smiled at us – all four of us – sitting around the bridge table – pulling up our papers; for I didn't know my nieces, and I am honored to contemplate their faces; we have a serious knowledge to do, and if it works as well as with my nephews, there is no bile to do. You would have smiled – I say – to hear us. "Thérèse, who is Thérèse" "Therese is in Philip" "but not, big fool, Thérèse is Jean-Pierre – ah good". Ah, Jeanine I know (known as Jean-Louis) Jeanine is Michel's wife. What a mixture, great God, until the paternal family took the lead in recognition.... I think of dear Nany, who would have been so happy to hold on to her children's hearts.
.................... I continue to send you parcels, food, clothes, etc.. This will happen to you one day? 9to always comes back to France. Here I am at the end of my roll. Hasta luego, queridas, that vayan well todos.........
2 October 22h
Jean-Paul giving me some extra photos, including one for the "Dear Child Friend" (Yves) , I'll take a piece of paper....
Among other things, I take your memorandum on the division of the estate. What is all these figures worth? One, in any case, is wrong, it is the Marcel deposit, which is no longer at Marcel's. At what rate does the notary take it? Because there are only 40,000 boxes here, so we are far from the 700,000 indicated.
Have you been able to make a declaration of war damage and how it was estimated? To see the picture of the field opposite, the whole part will not see a bit of grass in a long time. It has been very sad to see our stuff so damaged.
........the matte is a flourishing thing, and you'll tell me if you want me to take it to send you clothes and food.
.................... we are well informed, believe well, we have seen everything in fact of photos, films, terribly realistic and my sons followed this with me, to know and to remember above all....
When, my little sisters, I like you; wear some flowers for me on the dear grave. Tell all my nephews and nieces that, although decomposed, I still have a good effect on the shadow.
A gran abrazo todos
Jean

To the good care of Mr. Khelstowsky October 5, 1945
This is the list of cases in a suitcase I entrusted to the Russian, which I hope will arrive intact. The suitcase comes from Gath y Chaves (an Argentine department store), you will find him a job. I think all this will do you a favor and my goal will be achieved if I can please you.
This afternoon left the "Groix", with quantities of knowledge – the captain for example – for the 1stera
We have seen a boat in "peace suit" for years, without guns, without blackout. The five red stars, which we had almost forgotten, a magnificent French flag beating firm with the horn d'artimon has moved all the French, and it is a beautiful reward for those here who never thought that "it was over" and who held up, not without moral risk.
Yesterday came to the Michelin house for dinner. A friendly big boy, a first-hour Gaullist too, ..................
................................ Good-bye, my dears. Be well. Telegraph me "received suitcase," if everything went well. I kiss you very affectionately. John 6 October 1945, 8 pm, Buenos Aires

Jean Cordelle (Paris) to Jean Hausermann (Buenos-Aires), draft letter, 25 October 1945
My dear Totoni,
Received your long letter of 1ir October- with photos – then announces package entrusted to Kh. – then arrival 1ir Pack...
We spent a good summer in Vierville, despite the lack of comfort in our installation, the bedding was especially lacking, because we had brought everything back, or about to Paris in 44. (American), and that is what forced us to go one after the other in the old house. There is very little laundry too, the strict necessary, everything is in Paris and we hesitate (bring) to Vierville a whole oven which will then have to be shared in 3 and whose 2/3 will have to go back. Yet at the beginning of the year a serious problem will arise, because the owners of the apartment of Nany at the 4th floor.nd, come back in March from AOF, and take over their apartment! What about all the furniture if you didn't come back by then, and if the shares could not be made? Sending it back to Vierville pending your arrival will cost a crazy price, even if we get a transport authorization, which is not safe at all. And again, the 2/3 will have to go back from Vierville.Do you not consider coming at the beginning of the year?It would be very desirable, life is difficult and complicated here, we are doing a lot of trouble to try to restore Vierville, and it is quite obvious that it would be easier if it were only for one owner. I see that you are giving up on it, my old Touny, it is obviously a heavy burden, especially if you remain in B.A. for a few years and you can't enjoy it. or we, but nothing can be decided until an estimate is made, and this can only be done at the time of general division. Unfortunately, one solution would of course be to sell right away, but it would be too much trouble not to try to keep this house where our parents put everything themselves, and near which they rest.
