Letter from Jean Hausermann to Montevideo, Jean Cordelle in Paris

Montevideo, 17 May 1945

My dear Jean,

On April 30th, your letter of January 29th entrusted to the Alsatians, a company whose fate I am one of the advisers here in Buenos Aires. Your cables and finally those of the Lot-et-Garonne have finally taught us the happy liberation of Henry whose fate has been very worrying. Khelstovsky was also very happy with the news about his own, which really abandoned him from this point of view.

We have read with pleasure the news about our nephews and nieces, as well as their rejections, and now that the situation is normal we would like some photographs. ( ?)It was the 15th anniversary of John Paul.

The news you give me about the old house is a shame because our memories have died with it, and I don't think we can raise it, and even if it was possible, how to keep a large family home in the times that we are going to live. As a conservation measure, we must make it take, in due course, the damage caused; I want to believe that the enjoyment has been returned to you. What have you done to the Succession, which should be settled, but for this my presence is necessary and I do not see myself leaving here, unless someone raises me up, because Canonne is not able to take over. What does Gilbert (Hersent) think of the staff abroad?

I write from Montevideo where I came to settle the accounting of the Puma agency that had to be opened for the career.
I sent you since January a lot of packages, from the Red Cross and others, of food, wool etc. Today, they left by the "Cabo de Hornos" 10k between sugar, coffee, rice, tea, chocolate. Will all this happen to you? (no)
Tell me in your next letter about the office and the figures that live there. Tell Chedal that I thought about him and his dear dad. Kiss my sisters for me and tell them my affection.
We all kiss you very much.
Jean
