François started his career in Toulouse in the spring of 41, and he was invited to take part in the X competition.
After being received, he entered the Ecole Polytechnique, which was withdrawn to Villeurbannne in the autumn of 1941. After the occupation of the free zone, the Ecole Polytechnique moved to Paris in January 43.

"All my promotion (200), was divided into groups of two, in 100 different "young man's" and I was assigned with Guillamon to the Porquerolles one, where I made charcoal and Guillamon the harvest, and where I caught malaria.
