Nany in Germaine and Jean Hausermann in Dakar

 Paris – Wednesday, January 25, 1939(EXTRACTS)

.......he made a terrible storm on our coasts that had experienced the Breton or Norman fishermen, on the side of Concarneau a real cyclone hundreds d-trees (I don't know anything about Stang ar Lin-the house of Flondrois or Tio Mio in Brittany). Provided that when you left Gibraltar you did not catch the tail of this ugly wind.

.... I'll have you followed a map of Mrs. Ygouf who thanks you on behalf of the charity office, thanks to your generosity, the canteen that was very much about closing, will be able to continue until the beautiful days. The good that this will do to the little ones who will enjoy it will bring luck to your two sons, I'm sure.

...and our heating is out, you don't need to know if I'm fulminating on the phone. (owner) We're promised fire for tonight, and you're gonna burn it up.

... tell me quickly how you are installed on board? if the kitchen is comfortable and the Major State less distant than on Massilia?

......Goodbye my dears, may your dear father protect you. For me I will do my best to fulfill my promise on your next trip: go and get you by bike in Marseille... and you will not say that I would not have made any effort....

..... but I promised you to go to Marseille on your next trip to be in front of you... so it's not enough to let go, I intend to start my training on the fine days. To do this Artaud ordered stings, the yellow egg!!which seem to succeed me, though Italian. It is so much taken at this Mussolini of misfortune. In ten days we will begin the purple rays or X rays, according to what the radio we have to do will give, and perhaps I will see the end of my trouble.

....I hope that the Atlantic crossing was good, and that the failed sailor you were, my John, did not lie to his old reputation.

Where's the time you were escaping us to go in the machines to drink with the mechanics?

 Paris – Saturday, February 4, 1939(EXTRACTS)

.... And I'm starting to believe that Artaud has found my fountain of youth in some bites... Italian (!!) with the egg yolk!!! which go up a little more every day, so much that I have taken back daily trips, and even alone, because I feel strength (I even did a little getaway without warning anyone, than Martha, who believed me with Suzon. I don't even suffer d-enterocolitis, and I don't know why because I didn't change anything at my diet.nd And then again, before we decide whether the famous purple rays are still necessary. What a pity that Dr. didn't do this before you arrived, my dears, I would have been more valiant, and it would have changed our meeting so much that I saddened, despite me.

.....here (in Hersent Street, London) We miss all the projects we've presented, some are sorry, but we're not sure what we're doing. ( ? Benzeth ??) It's always concluded by "I wish they could do some work at this price." Is it enough to reason like a drum, on this account we don't reform the team anymore, we leave its equipment to abandon, and everything to the next. Sagne told Georges these days that they had all the troubles of the world with the staff who didn't stay. And for cause, we don't do any dedication in 15 days. But that's how Marcel and Challon did.

.....Nothing else if this is the renewed war concerns with the Italians' rodoonades. The Americans with Roosevelt hit a strong blow with their "borders of remote America to the Rhine" and their supply of some 800 aircraft to our advantage.Boches newspapers fulminent, and Mussolini who replied by Giornale d'Italia that the borders of Italy and Germany were along the Panama Canal.

 Paris – Saturday, February 11, 1939(EXTRACTS)

.....I sent a beautiful bouquet of Parma violets to be put on the dear grave (Daddy died on 6 February 1924)

.....But the bad flu broke us all like a castle of cards, it was Suzon who started, then Georges (they were lying side by side), then Bison, then me!, flu without gravity, but I less than anyone I had the right to treat this lightly. Artaud came, and here I am again, but still in bed as a precaution. It was going so well! I will have to start over and that's all; These famous wonderful bites that had me ragaillardie in such a short time.Suzon goes out again, George took over the office, the girl is still home, the boys are unharmed, and I have recorded our door to my other two big boys of course (François and Michel, who are at Bonne Mamme Cordelle Avenue Dode)They really don't have time to be sick...

......The good Tio Mio msa writes that he is not very valiant for reason. Artaud told us that he was doing l'ataxia, that it could go long or break right away, it would be better for him, the poor man.

Paris – 18 February 1939(EXTRACTS)

....here I am again valiant and I was able to take my journey back in the near woods that I win by car to return on foot – perfectly! –

...... All the smalah is also fine, and Suzon is moving this morning to send our 4 boys to Vierville who will be able to enjoy the good air for 5 days that our minister of l'Ed. Nat has given them. According to the new method you will read in the newspapers. There were 2 invitations to dance (including one at the senior of the Procops, married to a doctor) but the pleasure of turning around did not stand before the joy of being in V. and alone, please! (Jeanne de Léon, the guard, and Jeanne Colibeuf, the cook, who lived at Vierville station) And I have no doubt that these good girls are not treating our quartet at best. They are now big and reasonable enough to manage, and I think that the pleasure of our old house will be doubled from that of finding it without parents. It will do them the greatest good, it is very difficult to occupy healthy distractions of great boys for 5 days of vacation in Paris.

.... Old Tio Mio has also come to your elders for lunch. What a ruin he walks by, sees what he's doing just to behave. Dr. Art. is quite categorical, the disease is making giant steps and he sees little of the obligation to put him in residence a nurse or a valet, because the old good is enough to meet current needs. He wants to sell his car: 30,000F, she has made 25,000 km and cost him 90000F, and also Stang ar Lin where he does not go so much more, and which costs him. He wants 1000000F with all that is in it, canvases, trinkets, chineses. I told him that he would have a hard time getting rid of it in this way and that it would be better to sell all the furniture at the auction this summer by taking advantage of the many bathers' stay. I also suggested that he give his house to his niece who pleases very much, but he refuses absolutely. He is well advanced in having to liquidate all this, it is the revenge of those who have a family. He had an easy life, but how sad this lonely end of life is. He confessed to all his pain.

Paris – Saturday, February 25, 1939(EXTRACTS)

....it seems that your Titi continues to call cousins all the kids he meets... they're not getting any better! And if Jean-Paul kindly tells his impressions of travel, it's bound for the Titi at the club of the Tower of the Abbey, where there will be a door, a window and two keys for George V. and for him. I'll always see the illuminated figure of this little one when I told him that. I hope not to miss this sacred promise.

... . our boys came back from the Viervilles delighted with these 5 days of freedom, it did them the greatest good. Leon took advantage of their presence to return the fagots of the Vignet, unfortunately there are still 2 apple trees on the ground. I have them replanted now. There is also a large maple lying in the wood, it is a hecatombe. JP that I had charged with counting with Leon the hay boots remaining m Since when you stayed there on 13 January, Leon had confessed 450 boots I am furious after him, there was no 450 boots, because he did not spend 330 boots for the horse. I must therefore buy hay, straw and sound to make the welding, but I immediately gave the order to remove all rabbits; not wanting to buy hay from 3F the boot to make their litter, and wishing to redo the revival in August as in the past with Victoire and Sylvain. Now Leon finds it easier to cut every day huge hay out of the back lawn to feed the fifty rabbits he certainly takes advantage of. This made a drama m-a said JP, when they received my letter that comes from source. It is clear that 2 years ago I let go the reins, I need to tighten them, and I intend to go to V. here about fifteen if my health allows. J-y will wait for my smalah who is delighted to come there for Easter. They are debunk people that ours, but like all the old servants, they become almost more master than we, at home, and it takes occasionally to raise the voice. This also happens with Martha who yet has strong qualities that I highly appreciate.

......I had my good Aunt at lunch on Wednesday, she's completely put back, she has a beautiful look, and she has organized a concert at the family. She kisses you; always good with the children, she reminded me of the nice manners of your J Paul who like a gentleman took away her bell, approached her a small bench, dear little!

.....Georges was approached to accept the direction of a large dam in Laigle (Dordogne). Besides all the reasons you know that retain G. here, he had the opportunity to examine the prices of this work, absolutely tiny, he refused and the Hersent dropped Desplats-et-Lefevre, and the ? who proposed this job. We knew since they abandoned the case, we must believe that it was not so beautiful. It was also necessary to say Georges, redo all the staff, because we did nothing!! Since G. works with Hébert and Chalon on the project of Mers-el-Kébir which will probably be proposed to Sagne. He refused Laigle after examining it with G. Bénézeth as consolation said "It is a matter of complaint for the prices" and Sagne adding "Thank you, I tasted Verdon!"

......thank you for the maté (Money), my Jean, I have not been notified yet by our friends in Lyon (Crédit Lyonnais)…

....I'm glad you told me about the reception of Joan of Arc next to that of the Italians. These are only what they deserve.

Paris – Saturday, March 4, 1939(EXTRACTS)

......your old Nany continues to regain strength and courage to live. It is your dear journey that I owe this, my dear children! I think of making elegance, in the bottom of it always the same; rest assured, I am not at the knee dress, nor at the little bib on the top of the head. Hats become increasingly eccentric...and awful, but people better informed than I claim that the modists of the Peace Street become more reasonable, let's go, so much better!

....Reading with interest, your worldly outings, very nice all this but still empty, little Maine, in any country, believe in my old experience, it certainly needs to, but not too much, and I am not surprised that speaking jacasse of these brave people has a bit stunned you. You must be very beautiful, and your last modes will make sensation. We make less chichis in the hairstyles, it seems, but pretty waves and twists in the neck; reassure you old Nany who is a "age woman" will not raise her hair like yours, do you see that?

.... at the office where Georges pickesMers-el-Kébir with Challon and Hébert. He does not always agree with this one who seeks to present a project as inexpensive as possible to have. At last we see that it dies in time when work is being done, we talk about a large port to Alexandria; it would be Bertard who would take the first information (it is still Zezeth's cabbage, therefore Marcel H.)

....And Jean-Pierre told you to confirm that in the spring he would document himself for you at the nautical exhibition and send what is interesting.

Paris – Saturday, March 11, 1939(EXTRACTS)

Here our house is fine, but your old Nany, to vary without a doubt, has offered a nice access of malaria fever in the night from Wednesday to Thursday.....

(After visiting the historic Grosbois castle, belonging to Berthier's heirs, prince of Wagram)....All these beautiful castles are now open to the public on certain days, the fee that we get is for maintenance. I could perhaps do the same in Vierville, installing some old furniture and embroidering some legends of the good times, it's to be seen!
