Triple map of Marie-Hélène ROULIER
(widow of Emile Roullier), addressed to Mom,
Around 1967:

342

My dear Simone, I came to Ozon on the edge of the plateau of Lannemezan and facing the Pic du Midi de Bigorre to accompany the little Antoine Roullier whom one of the mothers prepares for his first Communion. His sister who is one year younger (they are just under 7 and 8 years old) is inside the fence. Meanwhile, Bernadette who waits for a 6th child prepares for his close family that is innumerable a reception of 30 people, parents, brothers, sisters, brothers with a family character, on the hillside of Villefranque, distant 40 km. My presence here (I am staying with Antoine who is not allowed to enter the fence) makes me look after the child outside the hours of instruction. I walk him, I lead him to the banks of the Arros that descends from the Pyrenees, I contemplate on a sky of fire the Pic du Midi of Bigorre which dominates the valley, side Pyrenees.
I admire the serenity of these Benedictines, all of whom are smiling and affable, and I rest a little from the arrival in Villefranque at the end of July, which was quite rough because we were 15, as Michel Roullier stopped when they returned from Saint Jacques de Compostela, or rather from the region of Vigo where they were spent the month of July. I received them in the house of French who I gradually set up, Michel coming on weekends, which is easy with the Transpyrenees. One Sunday, the weather was beautiful, they were at the Pic du Midi, and Michel was seduced by the magnificent view on the massif.
Françoise stayed in Paris to work with a photographer, who specializes in selling all the pictures of the world, after a horse camp in Poland, where she returned very happy, because we were really riding. We also see Poland and especially the remains of an implacable war in Warsaw. This learns the story. We see a flat country, we bathe in flat ponds and we do the same comparison with his own country. After a wedding in Valencia in the Rhône Valley, where we will meet again in September, I think she will go to England before the faculties return because it is important not to forget the essentials that for her is English.
I read with great pleasure everything you have told me about your children and grandchildren. So your Agnes and only little girl shone in the baccalaureate. I think you were expecting it and that it is intended to follow brilliant studies. When to your dear Mom, you tell me that she has supported her stay in Paris, far from you and I would be very happy to see her when you take back your winter quarters in the Midi passing through Paris. I think this summer, which was cut off from the violent storms, but also rich in beautiful days, has given you good family meetings in St. Lawrence.
Thank you for your good letter of the last month, which too much tumult prevented me from answering earlier. I tell you all my best affections.
